Em &#8220;O crep\u00fasculo da democracia&#8221;, Anne Applebaum, uma das primeiras jornalistas a soar o alarme das tend\u00eancias antidemocr\u00e1ticas no Ocidente, exp\u00f5e o magnetismo do nacionalismo e da autocracia. Ela afirma que sistemas pol\u00edticos com cren\u00e7as radicalmente simples s\u00e3o por natureza atraentes, sobretudo quando beneficiam os que s\u00e3o leais a eles e excluem todos os demais.<\/p>\n<p>Sch\u00fcler e Melo abordaram o impacto da tecnologia na democracia, sugerindo uma adapta\u00e7\u00e3o a uma nova era tecnol\u00f3gica, com potencial para cria\u00e7\u00e3o de uma &#8220;\u00c1gora p\u00fablica&#8221; mais segmentada. A globaliza\u00e7\u00e3o foi apontada como um fator para o surgimento de populismos, beneficiando alguns pa\u00edses e gerando ressentimento em outros. A combina\u00e7\u00e3o entre globaliza\u00e7\u00e3o e internet ampliou esse ressentimento, contribuindo para movimentos populistas e nativistas.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Andr\u00e9 Melo \u00e9 PhD pela University of Sussex, \u00e9 Professor Titular de Ci\u00eancia Pol\u00edtica da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, al\u00e9m de colunista da Folha de S\u00e3o Paulo e consultor de organismos nacionais e internacionais. \u00c9 Fellow da John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. Foi Fulbright Scholar no MIT, Visiting Professor na Yale University e Resident Fellow no Rockefeller Center-Bellagio.
